Checking Hearing Aids

Simple checks to do at home

Encourage children to do some of this themselves.

What to look for...

  • The mould is clean

  • The tube is clear and flexible

  • No cracks in the case or mould

  • No water (condensation) in the tube

  • No loose switches

  • The hearing aid is in the ear and switched on!

What to listen for...

  • The battery is working (the hearing aid whistles when it is not being worn!)

  • The sound (through a special device called a stetoclip) is clear and not distorted

  • No whistles when the hearing aid is in the ear
