Individualised Reading by Cliff Moon

This booklet compares the readability of a wide range of reading scheme and real books.  These are categorised by difficulty and colour coded.  There are 13 levels in total.  The resources on this website cover levels 0 to 7-8.

Cliff Moon system was available prior to Bookbands colour coding.  Comparison of levels indicates that Individualised Reading includes finer steps at the lower levels than Bookbands.  This makes it ideal for deaf pupils who are still developing language and communication skills alongside learning to read. 

Individualised Reading is available online from the National Centre for Language and Literacy.

Many publishers provide a reference chart which relates their materials to Cliff Moon and Bookbands.
