The River Darwen

It joins the River Ribble south of the London Road Bridge.

The river is now close to the sea.  The water is tidal.  This means is goes in and out like the sea.

Preston locks

The lock gates stop all the water going out to sea.

The river goes into in Preston.  Preston Dock was opened in 1892.  Lots of boats came here.  They carried cotton and wood pulp.
