Head's Log

We can find out how many children were at the school from the Head Masters' Log.

Feb 1 (1920) The number of pupils on the register at the beginning of the new term is 68 - namely 42 boys and 26 girls.  Two of the boys are absent on sick leave.  Seven pupils left during the holidays &, so far, only three new ones have been admitted.
Mch 31 (1922) The Registers were made up to the School Year End.  Fourteen pupils have been admitted ruing the year and eleven have left.  The number on the Register is 71, (42 boys and 29 girls) an increase of three.  The average attendance was 68, increase of 2.  The teaching staff, in addition to the Head Master, consists of 3 non-resident men, certificated; 2 resident women, certificated, 1 resident woman uncertificated, and 1 resident woman otherwise recognised.  There were three boys absent sick on the last day of the School Year.
July 1 (1922) Re-union of old pupils.  About 150 old pupils attended.  their names will be found recorded in the register of Old Pupils...there were 450 persons present at tea...the pupils and teachers (past & present) subscribed for & presented to Mr Shaw, the Head Master, on retirement, the new Cambridge Edition, of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, bound in morocco.  Mr D Craig, of Manchester, who will succeed Mr shaw as head master, was present and made the acquaintance of a great many people connected with the school.
