Curriculum

1901

30.4.1901 ...we have developed "Object Teaching" on the lines laid down in circulars issued by the Education Department... Five classes have had the object lessons, the teacher of each class selecting his or her own list of subjects & preparing his own notes of lessons... The following is a list of the Objects dealt with in the several classes:-
8.5.1901 ...Woodwork Class & the Drill...
16.5.1901 ...Language classes, the technical classes... the book work and handwork...
24.5.1901 ...I have arranged that the senior teacher...shall spend 4 hours daily in revising the articulation of the whole school.   The new time-table provides for...children from each of the five oral classes at a fixed hour...
29.8.1901 ....religion...
9.9.1901 I this day re-arranged the drill by dividing the pupils into four squads & placing each squad in charge of a teacher...the drill will be taken daily at 1.30pm...
18.2.1901 ...Observation Walk from 9 - 11am to see the River Ribble frozen...

Articulation (Mr Spence and Miss Donaldon)...

Handwriting and Records (Mr Westby)   The whole school to be trained in "Bold Style" writing...one exercise each day...

History (Mr Westby)...English History from the Roman Invasion to the time of Elizabeth...

Arithmetic (Maths) (Miss Atkinson)

Grammar and Composition...

Nature Study and Geography (Miss Brown)    A study of word flowers...Domestic and other animals...common birds...Physical geography with special reference to the Ribble Valley, Plan drawing and point of the compass, the construction and use of a map...Lanchasire...English...British Isles...

Needlework    All girls...

Drawing Evening Classes...for older pupils only.

Drill    Marching; exercises on the marth; running and hopping...

Swimming and Gymnastics   Taught to...oldest boys

Manual Instruction  ...Drawing...cardboard modelling; measuring, cutting, mounting and binding of paper on cardboard...

Cookery (Miss Roberts & Miss Brown)   All girls over 12.....

Woodwork (Mr Spence)  All boys over 11...)
