The Lesser Flamingo

The Lesser Flamingo  A flock of Flamingoes

This is the Lesser Flamingo.  It lives in big groups. Flamingoes can live for 20 years.

Flamingoes live in shallow lakes.

Most Lesser Flamingoes live in Africa.  Some live in India and Pakistan.

The Lesser Flamingo eats blue-green algae.  Algae is a plant that lives in water.  Lots of algae is very small.  You can't see it with just your eyes.

Flamingoes lay one egg in a mud nest.  The male and female look after the egg for 28 days.  The baby flamingo stays on the nest for 5-10 days.

Both parents feed the chick.  It grows fast.

African Fish Eagles sometimes eat flamingoes.
